World Hemophilia Day – Help Us Spread Awareness!

15th Apr 2022

World Hemophilia Day is observed on Wednesday, April 17th this year. This will mark the 29th year of spreading awareness for this rare and dangerous health condition. StickyJ Medical ID and our personal health records partner Backpack Health want to help spread awareness and hope that you’ll do the same by sharing this article with your friends, family, and co-workers.

What is Hemophilia?

Hemophilia is a rare physical disorder in which the blood does not clot normally which can lead to excessive bleeding when an injury is sustained. Typically small cuts are not a problem. The major concern comes about when a person with this condition sustains an internal injury which can lead to damage to major organs and a large amount of blood loss. In some extremely rare cases, a brain injury can result in death due to the lack of blood clotting. Hemophilia is an inherited disorder.

Is it contagious?

No, hemophilia is not something that can be passed from one living creature to another.

How common is Hemophilia?

It’s currently estimated that there are about 20,000 people living in the United States with hemophilia. Worldwide is less accurate, but it’s estimated that there are about 400,000 people living with hemophilia around the globe.

Is it preventable?

At this time, it’s not preventable.

Is it treatable?

“The best way to treat hemophilia is to replace the missing blood clotting factor so that the blood can clot properly. This is typically done by injecting treatment products, called clotting factor concentrates, into a person’s vein.” – CDC

Can Hemophilia be cured?

At this time, there is no cure for hemophilia, but there are treatment options available to assist with living with the condition as mentioned in the prior paragraph.

How is StickyJ assisting people living with Hemophilia?
