Your Healthy, Yet Tasty Gestational Diabetes Diet

Your Healthy, Yet Tasty Gestational Diabetes Diet

21st Apr 2022

healthy eating with gestational diabetes

Gestational Diabetes affects a fair amount of women daily which can cause unnecessary stress to both mother and baby. Today, we thought it would be a great idea to share with everyone a list of some healthy foods to eat if you or someone you know is pregnant with diabetes.

Plant-based Foods – If you can manage to eat and keep them down, vegetables and other plant-based foods can help to ease you along with your gestational diabetes. Many vegetables are said to aid in digestion. Some of these vegetables are leafy greens which include spinach leaves, kale, cabbage, and romaine. A green salad is a fabulous way to include all of these greens in a tasty, easy and quick way.

Healthy Fats – It’s important for mom to have plenty of healthy fats in her diet so that she can maintain nutrition and energy for herself and her growing baby. In addition to leafy greens, a diet rich in healthy fats from plants and animals is a great idea. Some of the foods mom can obtain these foods from are avocados, peanuts (peanut butter with a low amount of sodium and sugar) coconut milk, olive oil, eggs, and walnuts.

Fruits – Fruits are filled with many vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to aid in energy and immune efficiency. If mom is feelings extra lethargic and is looking for a pick-me-up, a good choice is to skip the caffeine and grab a banana or apple for some natural sugars.

Boost your protein– It’s also a great idea for mom and baby to have additional protein. A healthy way to do this is to ingest some of the items already listed above such as peanuts and eggs, but in addition, perhaps some cheese.

A good plan is to always be sure to start out your day with a full, healthy breakfast because that’s when your glucose levels are at the highest risk to be out of balance.
