About us

StickyJ Medical ID and sister company Thoughtful Impressions have been family owned and operated for more than 21 years. The company is led by CEO Lori Torman, who has an eye for great quality and classic styles. In the early days of medical id bracelets (we're talking 1960's), medical alert bracelets were pretty boring -- basically engraved metal tags with curb link chains. The same styles were offered for children, just smaller (no wonder kids didn't want to wear them). And, by the end of the 20th century things hadn't improved that much. Lori was among the first to recognize that medical id's could be fashion conscious, and in 2005 launched designs in leather as well as stainless, and introduced polyester kids medical id bracelets that had cute designs. The sport strap line of child medical id's she introduced nearly 20 years ago is still the most popular line of children's medical jewelry on the market today. And, we now produce more than 100 different styles of medical alert bracelets and necklaces for men and women. Our engraved bracelets are individually custom engraved by our team of master engravers, ship within three (M-F) business days from the date you order, and all products come with a 90 warranty against manufacturing defects. Please come and shop with us today. It will be our pleasure to serve you.

Why shoud I wear a Medical ID if I have Lymphedema?

Why shoud I wear a Medical ID if I have Lymphedema?

Posted by Lori Torman on 22nd Oct 2025

Wearing a Lymphedema Medical ID is vital for a person with lymphedema because it alerts first responders and other healthcare professionals to the condition. Lymphedema requires special care during medical treatment, and an ID helps prevent severe complications, especially if you are unable to communicate.

Protection from improper medical procedures

Medical IDs communicate critical safety precautions to emergency personnel, ensuring you receive the correct treatment. This is crucial if you are unconscious or unable to speak.

  • Avoids needle sticks and IVs: Medical IDs alert staff to avoid blood draws, injections, or IV lines in an affected limb. Such punctures can worsen swelling and increase the risk of infection.
  • Prevents incorrect blood pressure readings: The ID signals that a blood pressure cuff should not be used on the affected limb, as the compression can further damage the lymphatic system.

Prevention of dangerous infections

The stagnant fluid buildup from lymphedema provides an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Wearing a medical ID can prompt providers to take necessary precautions against infection, which can quickly become severe.

  • Cellulitis: An infection of the deep skin tissue called cellulitis is the most common and dangerous complication of lymphedema. A medical ID alerts doctors to the heightened risk so they can prescribe antibiotics promptly.
  • Sepsis: If a skin infection is left untreated, it can spread to the bloodstream and cause sepsis, a life-threatening condition that requires emergency medical treatment.
  • Faster diagnosis: An ID can prevent misdiagnosis, especially since early lymphedema symptoms can be confused with other conditions.

Enhanced emergency care

A medical ID ensures that you get proper, life-saving care in any emergency situation, regardless of your other conditions.

  • Quick communication: The ID speaks for you when you can't, giving first responders immediate, critical information.
  • Peace of mind: For those with or at risk of lymphedema, wearing an ID provides a sense of security and confidence in daily life, knowing that crucial medical information is always available to healthcare providers.

What to engrave on your medical ID

Your lymphedema medical ID should be clearly engraved with the following details:

  • Your name
  • "Lymphedema" and the specific limb affected (e.g., "Lymphedema - Right Arm")
  • "No BP / IV / Needles in [Affected Limb]"
  • Emergency contact information
  • Any other significant medical conditions or allergies
